Fresh Hope Counselling has based their client fees on a discounted rate based on the recommended fee schedule as put forth by the Psychologists’ Association of Alberta.

Please note, the regular counselling appointments with Fresh Hope are, or as close to, an hour (60 minutes) in length verses most therapy sessions now being 50 minutes.

* If it is possible, we do recommend that the initial appointment be 1.5 hours so that there is enough time to gather information and history, and also get a good counselling session in as well. With an extended length session, the cost is prorated based on your therapist’s hourly rate. If a 1.5 hour initial session is not an option, all of our therapists pack as much into an hour as possible.


Our regular daytime hours are Monday – Friday from 10:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. Sessions held during these normal operating hours are as follows:

Our Registered Psychologists are $180.00, which is a discounted rate based on the recommended fee schedule of $200.00 for 50 minutes endorsed by the Psychologists’ Association of Alberta.

Our Master’s Level Therapist/Registered Social Worker (RSW/MSW) is $150.00, which is a substantial discount.

Some clients prefer evening or Saturday sessions. Due to the increased cost of extending hours, we are able to offer a limited amount of sessions on certain evenings and every other Saturday. Sessions held after 5:00 p.m. or on alternating Saturdays are $200.00 per 60 minute/hour long session. This is for individual or couples/family counselling. (Still less than the recommended $200.00 for 50 minutes endorsed by the Psychologists’ Association of Alberta).


Cancellation Policy — 24 Hour Notice / Missed Appointment Policy

Fresh Hope Counselling maintains a 24 hour cancellation and missed appointment policy that is reviewed upon intake and signed in your Client-Therapist Contract. We understand that unforeseen events such as car problems, urgent business meetings, illnesses, and childcare concerns can occur. However, since your counselling requires your therapist to reserve a significant amount of time exclusively for your benefit, we have a policy regarding cancellations and missed appointments that is fair to you, your counsellor, and other clients who need appointments. You are free to refuse and/or withdraw from counselling at any time but because your appointment is reserved for you, it is necessary to charge you for appointments that are not cancelled at least 24 hours in advance or are missed.

Cancellation with less than 24 Hours Notice

Half the session fee will be charged for cancellations with less than 24 hours notice, barring an emergency or unforeseen circumstances as stated above (this will be at the discretion of the Office Administrator).

Missed Counselling Appointments Without Notice

The full fee will be charged for an appointment missed without notification or cancelled with less than an hour’s notice. Insurance companies do not cover cancellation fees for missed appointments or late cancellations, therefore, the client is responsible to pay for the entire fee.


Payment Methods

Typical payment is by Visa, MasterCard, American Express or debit and we issue receipts after each appointment. If payment by credit or debit card is not convenient for you, we can certainly arrange and accept other forms of payment. Payment must be received in full at the time of each appointment.

Insurance Coverage

Alberta Health Care does not cover Psychological Services/Counselling. Clients may have coverage through an extended health benefit plan. If you have a benefit plan, please check with your provider to see if they cover psychological services. If they do, all should cover for Registered Psychologists, and most cover for Cathy Murray whose designations are MSW, RSW (Masters in Social Work, Registered Social Worker), but it would be advisable to confirm that they do, as plans vary and there are a few that do not cover her fees. At this time we are able to direct bill several plans (see FAQ page), but all others that cover psychological services typically allow clients to submit their receipts for reimbursement, subject to the coverage and limitations of the policy.
